Eat More Acid

If you slept through chemistry class, you probably forgot the mnemonic device for memorizing the essential amino acids: PVT TIM HALL (Private Tim Hall). The essential aminos include phenylalanine, valine, tryptophan, threonine, isoleucine, methionine, histidine, rginine (essential in the young), lysine and leucine. They are "essential" because we need them in our diet due to the fact that our bodies don't produce them. Scientist have discovered that the EAAs may indeed be among the most anabolic of nutrients. Several studies from different labs have proven that. For instance, a recent study from the American Journal of Nutrition looked at 41 patients- average age 79- with various health maladies such as coronary artery disease (73 percent) and femoral fracture (34 percent); they were randomly assigned to receive oral essential amino acids, four grams two times a day for eight weeks, or a placebo that contained about the same number of calories.
Researchers found that supplementation with eight grams of EAAs daily improved several determinants of quality of life in the elderly patients... read more

Leucine Promotes
Strength Gains
Amino acid availability is critical for building muscle tissue with or without weight training. The amino acid leucine activates the mTOR pathway and stimulates various intracellular proteins that are vital for building muscle tissue. A study from Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia found that beginning weight trainers given daily leucine supplements (4 grams per day for 12 weeks) gained more strength than... read more |

Branched-Chain
Amino Acids Reduce
Obesity Risk
The branched-amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine are major layers in metabolism that affect appetite, metabolic rate and fuel use during exercise. A study from the University of North Carolina showed that people consuming larger amounts of branched-amino acids in their diets reduced their risk of obesity by 3 to 30 percent, depending upon their... read more |

Low Testosterone
Promotes Heart Disease
In men with low testosterone levels, restoring normal values with testosterone injections or gels reduces cholesterol, fat mass, waist circumference, and markers of inflammation that are linked to hardening of the arteries, diabetes, and the metabolic Syndrome- a group of symptoms such as high blood pressure, abdominal fat deposition... read more |
